The Beati Chorum (pronun: bay-ah-tee kor-oom) Singers League is a Portland-based choral organization with a philosophy rooted in harmonic fusion, vocal versatility, and ensemble unity.
Each group in the organization strives for perpetual progression as ensembles through the outstanding study and performance of choral works, from older, established pieces to freshly commissioned ones. Excellence is pursued in all aspects of the organization, and it seeks to develop both musicianship and fellowship on a foundation of unity, respect, and professionalism.
Part of the uniqueness of the groups under the Beati shield stems from the diverse and distinct blend of repertoire they present, adaptive vocal style, and solidarity in technique, as well as the amalgam of singers they retain. Each intentionally-small ensemble is highlighted by the combination of cohesiveness and unity found in a smaller, tighter-knit group of musicians and the power and strength of a larger choir. Similarly, concert presentations are often in more intimate settings to help the audience connect with the performers, and Beati strives to create an atmosphere where musicians and staff are approachable and accessible to the public.
The organization looks to expand the profile and appreciation of choral music in the Portland area, and believes that in order for choral music to thrive, it must be accessible to all. Beati strives to provide complete access for all people who desire to sing in a group setting, from those just starting out to those with a great deal of proficiency and training. As such, the organization has ensembles that fit all levels, backgrounds, and experience types. By establishing events, venues, and support in the community, Beati looks to help to spark cultural shifts in choral familiarity, and bring the medium to the forefront.
In addition, the organization looks to assist aspiring local composers through areas like sponsorship and performance. Beati works with them to refine their compositions through both rehearsal and performance, and provides opportunities for them to exhibit their work.
